Joe is interested in the behavior of modern ice sheets and the controls upon their dynamics. Why do they flow more quickly in some areas than in others? How can scientists observe the properties that control flow? Answering these questions is critical for predicting the behavior of these ice sheets using numerical models. In particular, mapping ice sheet stratigraphy and other englacial properties can produce significant insights into the formation and evolution of an ice sheet.
