SENIOR RESEARCH SCIENTIST
Kirk is interested in the structure and geodynamics of the Earth. Most of his research is focused on continental margins and plate boundary zones. Kirk is most interested in convergent and collisional plate margins, but his studies of the Taiwan arc-continent collision demonstrated the need to understand the rifted Chinese continental margin, which heavily influences the collision. His areas of current and planned future research include Central America, New Zealand, Taiwan, and the South China Sea.
