Caroline Seyler

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW

Caroline studies the grain-scale deformation processes operating along plate boundaries using rock deformation experiments, field work on exhumed faults and shear zones, and microstructural analysis. At UTIG, she is working with Demian Saffer to study the frictional and viscous behavior of subduction zone materials. She also works on the deformation mechanisms of understudied but common minerals in fault and shear zones like amphibole and phyllosilicates and their influence on the strength and dynamics of plate boundaries.

INTERESTS

fault and shear zone rheology, rock deformation, earthquake mechanics, structural petrology, subduction zones
