Student training is an important component of the research activities of the University of Texas Institute for Geophysics (UTIG). UTIG itself does not award degrees; rather the institute maintains close relationships with the Jackson School’s Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences through cooperative programs and joint faculty appointments. Many graduate and undergraduate students from The University of Texas at Austin and other universities and high school students take advantage of the opportunity to work with the staff and facilities of the Institute for Geophysics on projects related to funded research programs. Office space and computational resources are made available to students in the Institute laboratory.
UTIG staff works closely with the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences to enhance the curriculum in marine geology and geophysical sciences, areas in which UTIG has particular expertise.
General information about undergraduate research opportunities through the Jackson School (including UTIG) can be found at the Department’s Undergraduate Research pages.
