Students figure prominently in all aspects of University of Texas Institute for Geophysics (UTIG) research programs. By participating in large national and international field programs, students gain technical experience and develop insight into geological and geophysical phenomena; they also develop professional associations with other scientists. By contributing to UTIG’s record of research, publication, and scholarship, students help maintain the Institute’s high scientific standing. UTIG’s graduate education has an impact on industry as well, insofar as two-thirds of all M.S. and Ph.D. recipients begin their careers in industry. UTIG researchers teach or co-teach a number of courses.
