GOM2 principal investigators, Peter B. Flemings and Ann E. Cook showcased resent research at the 2025 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, Texas, highlighting advancements in methane hydrate exploration and offshore energy systems. Peter B. Flemings presented discussed the visco-plastic nature of hydrate-bearing sediments (http://doi.org/10.4043/35944-MS). Ann E. Cook presented a comparison of the two high saturation hydrate-bearing reservoir sands cored by GOM2, the Sigsbee sand in Green Canyon block 955 and the Orange sand in Walker Ridge block 313 (https://doi.org/10.4043/35872-MS).
These presentations underscore GOM²’s leadership in advancing methane hydrate science and technology, with implications for energy security and climate research. The OTC audience included industry experts, researchers, and policymakers, all keenly interested in the potential of methane hydrates as a next-generation energy source.
