Title: Detrital signals of environmental change from source to sink
Host: John Goff
Abstract: Changes in the erosional processes of Earth’s surface environments can generate a detrital record of sediment shed under varying conditions. This talk will explore the detrital record of cycles of erosion across two fundamentally different surface landscapes: 1) Shifts in the locus of montane erosion due to alpine glacial cycles in the Sierra Nevada of California, and 2) Patterns of erosion and sediment generation along the lower coastal plain of Texas rivers. These systems represent disparate end members in terms of climate, tectonics and margin morphology allowing for a broad exploration of the use of detrital provenance markers of erosion in source-to-sink sedimentary system analysis.
