SENIOR RESEARCH SCIENTIST EMERITUS
Larry’s research concerns plate tectonics and attempts to sort out puzzling sections of the Earth’s surface with an emphasis on polar regions. The PLATES project has compiled a dataset of marine magnetic anomaly picks, satellite gravity-derived fracture zone lineations, and other parameters used to reconstruct the world’s continents. Animations showing continental motions from Early Paleozoic to modern day are used to delimit mammal migration, opening and closing of important seaways, and geological juxtapositions of conjugate continental margins.
