Research Professor

Nathan works on subduction zone structure and tectonics to understand subduction zone development and fault behavior. Subduction zones host the world’s largest and most destructive earthquakes and tsunamis. Understanding the structure and tectonics is critical for understanding the fault zone conditions within the subduction thrust that controls its mechanical behavior. Nathan uses 2D and 3D seismic reflection imaging techniques, combined with drilling, to image structures and infer physical properties.
