UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Lucero Tunjar Cruz is an undergraduate geophysics (B.S.) student at the University of Texas at Austin under the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, and an undergraduate research assistant at the University of Texas Institute for Geophysics. She is originally from Peru, and the country’s proximity to the Nazca plate made her wonder about earthquakes and plate tectonics at a young age.
She is interested in plate tectonics and earthquakes, and understanding lead-ups to earthquakes, both naturally and by human activity. She works with Dr. Demian Saffer on investigating the physical properties of different sediment samples through laboratory tests. She also works with the GBDS, mostly digitizing and analyzing oil well logs. After her Bachelor’s, she intends to pursue a graduate degree in geophysics.
INTERESTS
Tectonic plate dynamics, fault mechanics and rheology, earthquakes, accumulation of stress, induced seismicity
