Rifts and rifted margins commonly nucleate on sites of previous orogeny. Yet, it remains poorly understood how previous orogeny influence subsequent extensional stages, e.g., localization of extension during crustal thinning phases. By studying lower crustal rocks from extensional settings, Rodrigo investigates how previous orogeny influence extension. His research includes metamorphic petrology, microstructural analysis, and thermodynamic modeling coupled with numerical models on extension.
