Title: Cold data, warm bodies
Host: Benjamin Keisling
Abstract: In this talk, interdisciplinary artist and associate professor Jiabao Li explores the intersection of climate science, art, and “more-than-human” perspectives. Moving from the receding glaciers of Svalbard to the vertical migrations of the deep sea, Li bridges the gap between cold scientific data and felt sensory experience. The presentation delves into the “Umwelt” of various animal species and the geopolitical complexities of the High Arctic, challenging people to rethink our relationship with the planet’s sentinels. These projects combine humor, irony, and rigorous inquiry to imagine a future of coexistence and humility in the face of irreversible environmental transformation.
