GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Xiang’s interests lie in large-scale geodynamic evolution, such as the processes associated with subduction, mantle convection, and intraplate deformation. These giant processes on Earth can be simulated via computers, and the key of doing so is to apply physical principles in a numerical way, which Xiang finds quite interesting. His current research focuses on deep mantle flow’s contribution to surface vertical motions, especially for Western U.S., by constructing a global mantle flow model.
